Smartsheet vs Gist in a Google-Off

Thanks to everyone who made the launch of the Gist Gadget for Google Apps such a huge success for us!

Another cool company working with the Google Apps Marketplace is Smartsheet located here in the Seattle-area as well.  We’ve entered into a bit of fun competition as outlined by Smartsheet’s founder Brent Frei below.  Wish us luck!

==========

The Seattle tech community is tight enough that we often cross paths in odd ways. The most recent involved colleague-from-Onyx-past Amy Pelly (Kelleran). She’s now at Gist, and she used our post on the Google Developer Blog to reinforce Gist’s decision to enter the Google Apps Marketplace.  Her email to us said:

“I specifically quoted the 17% month over month increase in paid users in my challenge to them. Maybe we have a friendly little wager – plot our [user growth] against each other and loser buys the others a round of beers. :)

As the only Seattle companies featured in Google’s announcement yesterday, how could we not take that wager? It’s like a cage match with a boxer vs a wrestler. We don’t compete in the same sport, yet we have much of the same audience.

When we told T.A. that we were going to post this, he upped the ante. Five hundred dollars to the charity of the winner’s choice, round of beers for the team and one year of premium services of the other team’s product. Seems he’s confident that their later entry into the Google Apps Marketplace with a brand new Gmail integration offering is more than made up for in value of customer fit. He’s got a great point.
