Facebook Integration
Gist now delivers your Facebook activity stream! Access your Facebook stream across multiple devices and applications using the Gist web application, our iPhone app, and the Gist Outlook plug-in. Better yet, using the powerful Gist Importance rankings, you can filter your Facebook data stream to only see posts from your most important contacts. Gist leverages Facebook Connect to continually update and refresh Gist profiles with the latest status updates and contact data from Facebook.
We’ve also integrated with the Facebook Inbox so you’ll now see Facebook messages in the Correspondence widgets on profile pages. And the Gist Importance algorithm has been updated to take the Facebook Inbox activity into account.
New Dashboard Layout
We’ve simplified the Dashboard to make finding and reading the news and network articles even more efficient. The filtering controls have been simplified and can even be hidden when not in use. We’ve made the Optimize feature easier to find. Use it to automatically configure your News Reader filters to show the most relevant articles for the day.
We’ve made the new reader size adjustable too. You can change the height of the reader by dragging the bottom of the window allowing better control of how much content you see. And if you prefer a full width view, the News Reader will fill the whole Dashboard when all the widgets on the right-hand side are closed. We’ve also added familiar keyboard shortcuts:
And sharing articles via email and Twitter is made easier with auto-complete functionality built into the Sharing tools. Just start typing and Gist will suggest email addresses or Twitter handles from your Gist profiles.
Inbound Tagging
We’ve heard quite a few user requests for more control over importing of People and Companies. In this release we’ve added the ability to assign Tags to each of the connected accounts. For example, add a “Prospects” tag when you connect your Salesforce account or add a “CES Conference” tag to a CSV import of all the contacts that visited your
sales booth. Then use the Tag filters in the News Reader to see news articles for all your Prospects or use Tag filters on the People List views to follow up with everyone you met at CES.
Data Improvements
We’ve been doing quite a bit of work on the inner workings of the Gist service. A big part of this work has been what we’ve been calling Fragments and we’re rolling that out with this release too. Gist builds rich profiles from vast amounts of online data including the Google Social Graph, Twitter, Facebook, thousands of news sources, contact databases, connected email accounts and even Amazon Wishlists. Our Fragments work allows us to better track where each of these pieces of information comes from. It also allows us to store multiple values for each field in every profile. Over the coming months, we’ll expose more of the data source information and also provide you more control over what does/does not get added to each of your profiles. In this release, you’ll notice that most Profile Updates are now automatically combined with existing data in you contact and company profiles.
Gist Profile Improvements
We’ve simplified the Actions menu on the People and Company Profiles and you’ll now see suggested actions guiding you through some of our more popular features. And People profiles now have Birthday and Anniversary support. You’ll see the birthday field automatically filled in for Facebook friends who have added this information to their Facebook profile. And for all others, you can manually add a birthday and/or anniversary event.
